One of the largest contract chip manufacturers, the company GlobalFoundries , continues to develop all the finer process technologies. It was assumed that the production of such chips will be established after the launch of Fab 8, construction of which is currently in New York, but, according to general manager of Fab 1 Yudo Notelferu (Udo Nothelfer), the first 22-nanometer products may appear from GlobalFoundries earlier.
A company representative said that the Fab 1 is not just switch to using 32-nm and 28-nm technology by the end of this year, but will the active development of 22 — nm process technology. This is due primarily to the desire to “обкатать” thin technology before mass production of chips at Fab 8. In addition, GlobalFoundries confident that the 22-nm chips will be in demand to customers even before it completed the construction of new factory.
