The organization One Laptop per Child ( OLPC ), bringing forward an eponymous project to develop a laptop for children in developing countries, revealed plans to develop its product line XO. The first series of XO laptops have 1.4 million children from 35 different countries, said OLPC founder Nicholas Negroponte. The project is to provide cheap computers 500 million children around the world, so that the work at the OLPC a lot more.
In January 2010 will be released model XO 1.5. New inherit design XO version 1.0. Instead of AMD chips to the XO 1.5 will be used processors VIA, which will provide twice as better performance, say developers. Also, a new generation of laptops will have four times more RAM (1 GB instead of 256 MB), four times as many built-in flash memory. User will have a choice between Windows and Linux. In 2012, OLPC plans to release a laptop XO 3.0 (the development of previously submitted dvuhdispleynogo XO 2.0 concept was abandoned), which will apparently radically different from previous decisions. The device will constitute a single thin sheet of flexible plastic. It is a touch screen without keyboard (if necessary, the lower part of the screen will simulate the keyboard).
Plans for OLPC XO to produce the third generation are more like dreams. It’s not even that translate this concept into reality will be difficult.
